Government Announces Long Awaited Agricultural Land Policy

Minister Doucet announced the long awaited Agricultural Land Policy on January 19th.  This policy is the result of years of consultations and pushing from the agriculture sector to protect our farmland.  It has three main policy statements: The Protection and Preservation of Agricultural Land The Enhancement and Development of Agricultural Land Guiding Principles for Land Use Planning You can read the whole policy on the gnb.ca website.  On the whole, the NFU-NB is pleased to see this policy become a reality and we are eagerly awaiting the next steps towards its implementation. Building a thriving farm business takes time – and daycare support!

  The NFU-NB has been working on getting farm families access to the Daycare Assistance Program since 2012 when it was first brought up by our membership. The following message was published in the NFU-NB’s Winter 2017 Newsletter.    In the winter months, farmers start planning the coming summer’s crops and livestock. While thinking about our next season I began to think about how, as a family and a restaurant owner, I only want to buy meat from farms that have “happy” animals.
