Meet Riley

Hi, I’m Riley.  My wife Chantal and I are new entrants.  We started with a small flock of sheep in 2010 just outside of Fredericton and quickly outgrew our space.  In 2015 we moved to Summerfield to expand our operations.  Currently we raise sheep and supply a loyal following of customers with fresh eggs.  In 2016 we added a small herd of cows to diversify our farm and utilize available farm ground and feed. Only seven years in, we are all too familiar with the challenges to getting started in agriculture.  Financing and revenue both...

Meet Barb

Hello, I’m Barb.  Raised in the city, I became a farmer when I married into a farm family. My husband, Victor, and I raised three children while running a small dairy farm in Juniper, in western NB.  With the support of family and industry representatives, we have received recognition each year for the past three decades for the excellent quality of the milk we produce. Over the years both Victor and I have put a lot of effort into supporting community initiatives, serving on boards for our school, our library, our hospital, our...

Meet Eva

Hello, I’m Eva. I own and operate a farm in Saint-Maurice, with my partner and three children.  We are going into our 9th year of CSAs and farmers markets.  We were both new to farming and moved to a new community.  Not knowing any farmers as our immediate neighbors, I realized I would have to go a little beyond my county.  I was then approached by the president of the National Farmers Union in NB who asked me to join.  I was fortunate to find the National Farmers Union in NB, a committed group of farmers who are willing to...

Meet Stephanie

Hello, I’m Stephanie.  My husband and I have farmed in Head of Millstream for over 40 years, first in dairy, then raising dairy heifers, and finally into raising grass fed beef.  I’ve been a strong believer in promoting local food for a long time, and found that the NFU has a lot of policy and interest in food sustainability and local food production. One of the things I enjoy about being an NFU member is getting policy papers on issues that are important to me.  The papers are clear, well researched and non-polemical.  I am educated...

Meet Ted

Hi, I’m Ted, I have been farming in New Brunswick for over 30 years.  Over the years, my farm in Harvey has provided many different bounties from certified organic vegetables, greens, and garlic, to sheep and beef.  As my transition to retirement, I decided to stop the market garden and focus on livestock – however the livestock has continued to expand and I’m hard pressed to say that I’m any closer to having any more free time! For the past nine years, when I complete my Farm Business Registration Forms (to get a Registered...

Ferme Springbrook Farm – The Farmers of the NFU-NB Series

Posted by on Sep 16, 2015 in Featured Farmer, News | 0 comments

Ferme Springbrook Farm was first featured in the Summer 2015 Edition of the NB Family Farmer. Jean-Pierre Gagnon calls himself an agricultural entrepreneur, rather than a farmer.  He enjoys both connecting with his customers as well as growing La Ferme Springbrook Farm brand.  For him, he’s not just selling a pork chop, he’s selling a Gagnon pork chop or a Springbrook pork chop, and for the past ten years his customers at the Dieppe farmers market have come to know and recognize the quality of the Springbrook name. The land that...
