(Fredericton – Feb 4, 2016) – After meeting with Minister Horsman in October 2015, the National Farmers Union in NB is still awaiting a response regarding changes to farm vehicle registration in NB.   NB farmers pay the highest farm vehicle registration fees in the Maritimes.  PEI pays only $10 per vehicle/per year and Nova Scotian farmers pay about 30% of what NB farmers have to pay for the same vehicle weight.   When all vehicle registration fees were increased by 7% in September 2015, both general farm organizations came...

Highest cattle prices in over 10 years

FRANÇAIS Cattle prices are the highest that farmers have seen in over ten years.  Prices plummeted after the BSE crisis in 2003 and are finally back up to a level where farmers are able to recover the cost of production.  Based on sales averages from the Sussex & Studholm Agricultural Society in early-October prices have increased over 85%.  Sales prices were up an average of $.84/lb for bulls and $1.23/lb for steers over the same time last year.
