- NFU Food Sovereignty Workshop

IPC has been organizing workshops for our members across the country. These workshops give NFU members an opportunity to discuss the meaning of food sovereignty for NFU and to plan for fuller participation in the food sovereignty movement.
NFU, is part of that movement in a number of ways because the NFU is a founding (and very active) member of Via Campesina, and our policies reflect the principles and values of food sovereignty. It was, in fact, Via Campesina which created the concept and language of food sovereignty as a framework for understanding food politics and as model for designing effective action.
The IPC workshops aim to strengthen the work we already do to promote and create an environment and policies for the production and distribution of food, that are based on social justice. The NFU sees working on a global level makes sense because the food system is global. It is clear to us that the NFU’s global involvement is not just an “add-on”, but a logical extension of our work..
As we work locally, the challenge always is to see our local action from the point of view of global realities and to see ourselves as part of a global movement for change.
The Region One Food Sovereignty Workshop can accommodate 25 (maximum) participants, (which includes 5 people involved in organizing and animating). The workshop is funded in part by Interpares, which will cover over-night and elavilnews com. Child care will be provided. Participants are expected to attend the full workshop.
